Pumuky and Gaf y la Estrella de la Muerte in Madrid
Sala Neu! in Madrid is delighted to present two of the best bands of today in a double concert on the 24th of February 2012. First, Gaf y la Estrella de la Muerte will play, followed by Pumuky, and rather than two concerts, this will be a sensorial experience.

That Spanish music is on the up is no secret. Further than what the numbers of the record market tell us, this rise that we’re talking about is on a creative and artistic level. There are more and more bands that experiment and surprise us with a new sound, such as Vetusta Morla, Maga or Standstill. In this case, the seven members of the musical project Pumuky, headed by the Ramírez brothers, Jaír and José, are popularizing Spanish post rock like no other band has done before. The roots of the band are in the Canary Islands, although they now mostly spend their time in Barcelona. They have already released three albums and, after the successful ‘El Bosque en Llamas’ (‘The Forest in Flames’), in 2011 they released ‘Plus Ultra’. Pumuky carry on with their unique style singing in Spanish and moving in between melodic, atmospheric and wrapping music. The album was recorded in Seville and it has the participation, among others, of David Cordero de Úrsula on guitar. Their previous album, ‘El Bosque en Llamas’ became a conceptual album almost without wanting to because this band unleashes its creativity trying to complicate their life as least as possible.
What can we expect from the concert of Pumuky in Madrid? Above all, a personal and almost serious atmosphere. Some would say that the 7 band members go out on stage really concentrated or ready to enter some sort of trance so that the music flows, leaving them in the background. For those who enjoy this type of music, it will be great to share this state of trance and, for those who aren’t used to it, they will surely live intensely songs such as ‘Lobo estepario contra caballos desbocados’ or ‘Moriarty y la combustión espontánea’.
On the other side we have, as a support band, Gaf y la Estrella de la Muerte. Some of the band members also participate in the Pumuky concert. This band, also from the Canary Islands, cannot be missed. They’ve already participated in many influential festivals and, also, no matter how strange it sounds, they’ve made a Japanese tour of nine concerts. The style of Gaf is quite singular. They don’t have any drums or any type of percussion and their music mixes folk and jazz with experimental. In this case it’s Mladen Kurajica who is in charge of leading this project, and has been doing since the end of the 90s.
Attending this double concert and living a unique experience will only cost us 10 euros. Laughable! So, even if its just for curiosity, it’s worth a try. For more information: http://www.nvivo.es/conciertos/Pumuky-Madrid
It even makes sense to plan a small trip to Madrid, not only for the concert of Pumuky and Gaf y la Estrella de la Muerte, but also for all the cultural proposals that we can find in Madrid all year long. Also, if we’re looking for apartments in Madrid it won’t be difficult. Renting apartments in growing in popularity and it’s also very cheap. Shall we do it then?
