Juan Correa show at the Marlborough Gallery in Madrid
After the success of the first show in 2008, the artist Juan Correa, who was born in Madrid in 1959 and now lives between Madrid and Segovia, will present his new work in an exhibition at Marlborough gallery starting September 16th. The show features more than a dozen abstract works that were painted using tempera on parchment in small and medium formats.

Juan Correa emphasizes shadows and colour in his painting. He uses figurative references and concepts that were drawn from naturalistic painting and classical ruins. Many of his paintings depict spots and shapes that are only suggested by the painter and the viewer but can be interpreted in different ways. In fact many of his works have hidden figures that will be missed if the observer is not really paying attention to what lies before their eyes.
His works seemed marked by history and seem at once to belong to the world of ancient art while being very much rooted in the world of contemporary art. Their style, surprisingly varied, presents pictorial forms overlaid to construct the image layer by layer.
In the introductory text which accompanies the exhibit, its is explained that Correa employs a rigorous technique which involves mastery of such bygone techniques such as mixing acrylic and marble dust, which the artist explored throughout his apprenticeship.
Undoubtedly the exhibition being held from September 16 to October 16, 2010 at the Marlborough Gallery is one of the most interesting exhibits on the cultural agenda. If you want to keep up to speed in the world of contemporary art, rent apartments in Madrid and don’t let this opportunity pass you by.
