The fifteenth edition of one of the most important European comic events is here! Once again, fans of the ninth art from Madrid and around the world will attend the International Comic Exhibition of Madrid or Expocómic 2012.

When an exposition of this caliber reaches its fifteenth edition, organizers and attendees are in luck. It is certainly a sign of the success and the quality that has been achieved year after year. The Spanish Association of Friends of the Comic (CSSA) is behind all the work, and everything is ready for visitors to spend four amazing days.

Expocomic Madrid 2012

Expocómic 2012 will be held in the Glass Pavilion of the Exhibition Centre of the Casa de Campo, as in the previous edition. It runs from November 29 to December 2.

This time the honor of designing the poster that announces the event was given to a true genius in the world of comics and illustration: Francesc Capdevila, better known as “Max”. “Licantropunk”, Nosotros somos los muertos” or “Bardín, el superrealista” are some of his most famous works.

In addition to Max, there are many other authors that were invited this year and whom attendees will be have the pleasure of meeting, including Valencia Victoria French, who is internationally known for the impressive Gothic-inspired illustrations that usually feature a singular feminine beauty from a point of view that deepens the work’s melancholy feelings.

José Ramón Larraz is yet another national myth. The author, whose work combines illustration with film, has just published a book of his memories. He takes advantage of this edition of Expocómic to give an overview of the great works that marked his career.

Enrique Breccia is another name that should be noted in Expocómic 2012. The famous Argentine cartoonist shows us one of his key works, “The sueñero”, in an exhibition in which we can see the pages of a chapter of this book that was and remains highly controversial.

The brutality of Simon Bisley and the terror of Ben Templesmith further round out this wonderful roster which makes the entrance fees worthwhile.

The Englishman Simon Bisley presents some of the most interesting and original works in the exposition. The key aspects of his work are the mixed techniques and the transformation of his characters to the absurd or brutal.

The Australian Ben Templesmith meanwhile is one of the most acclaimed authors, with seven Eisner nominations. Some of his most important works are “30 Days of Night” or “Fell”.

Don’t miss the opportunity to see these authors and all that Expocómic 2012 offers. Admission is 5 euros for one day or 12 euros for all four days.
